Our own fears, anxieties, along with our social and cultural conditioning can work very strongly against women preparing for birth, and during the birth process. An environment is created in the classes where personal healing can take place, eliminating the fear and anxiety that most people have associated with labour and childbirth.

Birth IS a natural process which should be experienced fearlessly, calmly, and ecstatically. Calmbirth® teaches pregnant mothers, fathers or birthing companions the skills to accomplish such an experience for the birth of their baby, regardless of what type of birth unfolds on the day.

When my son was born the room was dark and the only people there were, the midwife, and myself. It was private and beautiful. Our own choice of music was playing quietly in the background. Everything was exactly as I had hoped it would be. His birth was so special – words can’t describe how amazing it was, or how awestruck I still am. Calmbirth® is a model of education that leads to a much greater understanding of your own inner resources, and what you can bring to the birth of your baby. When you complete the program you and your partner will have a ‘tool kit’ of strategies and skills, that have been built up through your own practice, that give you a much greater confidence in handling the very diverse nature of labour and birth. What you do with this knowledge and how you use it on the day will be completely unique for you and your partner.

I have never heard a couple say that they have not benefited in some way; in fact couples are mostly amazed at how what they did, made such a big difference on the day.

During the classes, you will learn and practice the simple yet powerful techniques;

  • Creating a Deep Relaxation Response within your body
  • Breathing techniques for the different stages of labour
  • Visualisation and other focusing tools.

These techniques, as simple as they sound, if used correctly and practised beforehand, will lead to you birthing your baby in the most calm, gentle and natural way possible, with less or no pain and less likelihood of drugs or interventions during the labour and birth of your baby.
